Bermeo Tuna Forum: sustainability and global partnerships for the future of tuna

The first international Forum organised by Bermeo Tuna World Capital, bringing together institutions, scientists, companies and international organisations in Bilbao and Bermeo to promote sustainable and comprehensive management of the tuna sector.

The Bermeo Tuna Forum, organised by Bermeo Tuna World Capital, has been established as an international space for debate, reflection and cooperation on the sustainability of tuna and its entire value chain, integrating environmental, social and economic perspectives. A forum bringing together international institutions, United Nations agencies, tuna companies, scientific organisations and representatives of the fishing sector in Bilbao and Bermeo.

Objectives

  • To promote the sustainable management of tuna on a global scale.
  • To create international alliances between institutions, companies, scientists and organisations linked to the fishing sector.
  • To promote an International Declaration on Tuna Sustainability aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda.
  • To promote traceability, the fight against illegal fishing and respect for human rights throughout the tuna supply chain.
  • To position Bermeo as an international benchmark for the blue economy and sustainable fishing.

Save the date

April 30–May 2, 2027 – Bilbao & Bermeo

The Bermeo Tuna Forum 2027 will bring together representatives from international organisations, the United Nations, the scientific community, the fishing fleet, the processing industry and coastal communities from 30 April to 2 May at the Euskalduna Conference Centre in Bilbao and the port of Bermeo. Under the strategic framework ‘Tuna 2030+: From Sustainability to System Leadership’, this event will address the comprehensive sustainability of the tuna system from its environmental, economic, social and cultural dimensions. Through governance forums and analyses of future scenarios, such as the Tuna Futures Lab and the Cities Leaders Summit, the direction of ocean regulation will be examined, linking the power of global decisions with the immediate reality of those who sustain the sea.

The central highlight of this edition will be the public accountability report on achievements since 2023, the expansion of the Global Tuna Cities Alliance, and the final signing of the Bermeo Declaration in the presence of the public. The Forum does not merely participate in the debate; it drives, engages and measures it.

The decisions that define the future of the ocean and fisheries system cannot wait any longer. Join a conversation where words are transformed into signed commitments. Registration for the Bermeo Tuna Forum 2027 will open shortly.

From the Sea. For the Future.
