Message from the Director

Director
Maitane Leizaola

Welcome to the Bermeo Tuna World Capital website.

This platform has been created with the aim of raising public awareness of the work carried out by an association that looks out to sea from Bermeo and views the world through the prism of the tuna value chain. A diverse, innovative and committed value chain that brings together knowledge, tradition, industry, technology, food, sustainability and international cooperation.

Bermeo Tuna World Capital is much more than just an industry association. It is a shared project that seeks to highlight the strategic role of the ecosystem it represents and its contribution to sustainable development, the blue economy, employment, innovation and the protection of the oceans, resources and people.

We represent a way of understanding the future of tuna from a holistic perspective: from the sea to the plate, with a firm commitment to environmental, social and economic sustainability.

Through this website, we aim to provide a glimpse into our activities, our projects, our partnerships and the people and organisations that make this journey possible. We want this to be a meeting point where you can learn more about who we are, what we stand for and how we work to promote a more sustainable, transparent and competitive value chain for tuna and albacore tuna, one that is committed to future generations.

We invite you to explore this space, discover our initiatives and become part of a global conversation that originates in Bermeo, but which looks out across the world’s oceans and the communities that depend on them, through an approach to working, cooperating and understanding relationships that is uniquely our own.

That which we call the ‘Bermeo way’: Bermeoko erara!

Rooted in our identity and in our home port, Bermeo, which is where it all begins. But also with a global purpose and ambition. Because wherever there is an organisation associated with the great Bermeo Tuna family, there is a shared commitment to environmental, social and economic sustainability, and to contributing to the development of the regions where we operate.

Thank you for joining us. Fair winds!
