An annual event in Bermeo where the fishing and canning industries showcase their products, flavours and maritime culture, with tastings and activities for all ages. Bermeo Tuna takes part with culinary offerings designed to introduce visitors to tuna in various forms and to learn about its value and sustainability.

We are back

After a two-year hiatus (and a virtual adaptation) of the most important fish market in the entire northern region, this year Bermeo’s Arrain Azoka returns to its traditional in-person format with a comprehensive program for May 20, 21, and 22.

Objectives

  • To highlight the value of seafood and the work of the fishing and canning sectors.
  • To offer a gastronomic and educational experience for visitors of all ages.
  • To raise awareness of tuna (bluefin and albacore) in a practical and enjoyable way.
  • To strengthen the connection between the product, local culture and good practices regarding sustainability.

Information

AT BTWC, WE ORGANIZE AND PARTICIPATE IN SEVERAL ACTIVITIES:
  • On Friday, we will host dialogues on gastronomy and fish with internationally renowned chefs:
    • Andoni Aduriz (Mugaritz)
    • Aitor Arregi (Elkano)
  • On Sunday, to bring the fair to a close in style, we will also have Eneko Atxa to talk about sustainability in the world of gastronomy.
Other activities
  • Additionally, the program is complemented by:
    • Tuna and Txakoli wine tasting and pairing activities, among others.
    • Demonstrations of different tuna recipes from around the world.
  • Also organized by BTWC, a different kind of activity will take place, aiming to raise social awareness for the cause we are promoting. This is an international declaration in favor of tuna sustainability—an international agreement of shared commitments among institutions, companies, and society, which will be presented next year at the Bermeo Tuna Forum. To share this with the public and encourage people to join the cause, a mural will be painted live in the tent on Friday using visual thinking.
  • Lastly, the sales fair also returns to its traditional format with the exhibition and sale of products from the local canning sector, which is globally recognized for the high quality of its canned products.
