Arrain Azoka 2026 hosted a new edition of the “Bermeo Tuna–Urdaibaiko Esentziak” tasting experience, a joint initiative promoted by the Urremendi Rural Development Association and Bermeo Tuna. Once again, the event highlighted the gastronomic richness of the Urdaibai region and its commitment to sustainability.
On 23 and 24 May, two tasting sessions were held in the main tent at Lamera, offering visitors the opportunity to discover the unique combination of some of the area’s most representative products: tuna, albacore tuna and Urdaibai txakoli wine.
Participants enjoyed three pintxos prepared with sustainably sourced tuna species, paired with three txakolis from Bodegas Itsasmendi, Bodega Berroja and Bodega Talleri Berria, wineries committed to sustainable development and members of the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism.

The tastings were led by Jon Andoni Rementeria, head sommelier at Remenetxe restaurant in Muxika, who guided attendees through the characteristics of each product, the values behind sustainable fishing practices and the art of pairing local wines with seafood.
The initiative once again achieved its main objectives: showcasing the work of local producers, promoting the consumption of locally sourced products and strengthening Urdaibai’s position as a leading gastronomic destination.
Bermeo Tuna would like to thank everyone who took part in the experience, as well as Urremendi, the participating wineries and all the professionals involved in making the event possible. Once again, “Bermeo Tuna–Urdaibaiko Esentziak” demonstrated how tradition, sustainability and quality continue to define the gastronomic identity of our region.
